Association memberships

H&T is a member of the following organizations and is particularly involved in the NPA as John Nichols, H&T’s Chief Executive Officer, was appointed President of the NPA in October 2004.

H&T are members of:

NPA

The NPA was founded in 1892 and incorporated in 1931 as a company limited by guarantee. In June 1989, with the benefit of almost a century of experience, it reviewed and re-wrote its original constitution. The review had several purposes, but was undertaken in particular:

  • to take account of the recent expansion of the pawnbroking industry
  • to ensure efficient regulation of its affairs and those of its members
  • to protect the public interest, especially given the general environment of self-regulation in the financial services sector

BCCA

The British Cheque Cashers Association is the trade association of the cheque cashing industry in the UK, representing some 400 companies, who offer cheque cashing services through more than 1500 outlets.

It provides representation for its members to departments of Government and regulatory bodies in both Whitehall and Brussels. Via it’s Code Of Practice and Money Laundering Policy And Guidelines, the BCCA has established (and polices) rigorous standards for the industry. It plays an active part in promoting understanding of the role of the new industry of cheque cashing.

CCTA

The Consumer Credit Trade Association was established in 1891 as trade association for the Consumer Credit industry – they serve members by providing a strong lobbying voice, solid information and practical products and services.

Traditional values with an innovative outlook have meant that the CCTA has been influential throughout the last 100 years or so in the development of the complex credit industry that exists in the UK today.
